Naturepedic Organic Cotton Lightweight Classic Baby Crib & Toddler Mattresses offer the same delightfully comfortable, natural support for baby and toddler alike, as the Naturepedic Classic Mattress with 150 or 252 coil innerspring, but are half as heavy. A lighter mattress makes sheet changing a breeze. Unlike conventional mattresses, Naturepedic mattresses are absolutely free of polyurethane foam and vinyl/PVC, synthetic fire retardants among other materials which are know to emit undesirable chemicals.
Naturepedic Organic Cotton Lightweight Classic Crib & Toddler Mattresses are made in USA of Certified Organic unbleached cotton batting, layered to provide excellent support, necessary firmness and comfort for little bodies. Certified organic cotton is advantageous as a filling for mattresses because it is a plant, and therefore renewable, cultivated without the use of pesticides and processed with out bleaching and dying. The mattresses have a 100% pure food grade polythethylene surface which is waterproof and easy to clean. Polyethylene, an environmentally friendly plastic commonly used in food packaging for it's non-toxic qualities, makes the ideal non-toxic & waterproof mattress cover. Naturepedic gives families peace of mind knowing that only the purest, safest materials and practices are used in the construction of their mattresses while toxic chemicals and materials are strictly avoided.
Children spend a vast amount of time in their early years, sleeping or playing in their beds, and their young bodies are particularly vulnerable to the effects of harsh, toxic chemicals. In addition to being free of harmful chemicals and materials, Naturepedic mattresses provide excellent comfort, durability, orthopedic support and adhere to the Consumer Protection Safety Comission (CPSC) firmness recommendations. All Naturepedic mattresses have heavy duty rods for added side strength and edge support.

Naturepedic's Non-Toxic Fire Protection
Naturepedic has a solid commitment to doing what is right, and non-toxic fire protection is one of them. Naturepedic mattresses have the advantage of being filled with organic cotton, much less flammable than polyurethane foam, latex or other petroleum based materials, and do not need to be subjected to harmful chemical fire retardants to meet government flammability standards. Naturepedic is able to meet & exceed Federal & State flammability standards by using non-toxic food-grade materials such as baking soda, hydrated silica and cellulose. Baking soda, most commonly recognized as a baking ingredient, is an excellent non-toxic fire retardant. Silica, a major component of human tissue, bones, teeth and cartilage, is a naturally occurring mineral and is sold in health food stores as a dietary supplement. Silica is found in large quantities in clay, sand and rock, and is often the primary ingredient of natural toothpastes. Cellulose, to which the baking soda and hydrated silica are permenantly bonded, is an organic compound with a low carbon footprint that is usually sourced from eucalyptus and poplar trees. Baking soda, hydrated silica and cellulose fiber come together to create powerful fire protection that does not break down.
Nearly all conventional mattresses are built with polyethylene or latex as the primary filler. Due to the highly flammable nature of these materials, they must be treated or wrapped in industrial strength fire retardant chemicals. Fire retardant chemicals raise a great deal of concern about health and toxicity. Most manufacturers choose not to disclose which chemical ingredients are contained in their mattresses.
